Meet the SandFest Tesm
Shawn has spent many hours volunteering with local charities and has been involved with Texas SandFest for 7 years and has served as President for the past 3. He has been a resident of Port Aransas since 2006. Career background: Production Management/Video Engineering, working in Corporate Events and Trade Shows across America and abroad. Shawn and his wife Sandy own Stingray’s Tap House and Grill in Port Aransas.
Ruth has served on the Texas SandFest board since 2014. She is a graduate of Auckland Teachers’ College in New Zealand, her own island country. She completed her interior design degree at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. Ruth stumbled upon this island community in 1978. She settled in San Antonio, but with a vacation home here, she was able to keep her family in touch with the island. She moved permanently to Port Aransas in 2004, where she opened Third Coast Interiors, which specializes in flooring, interior design and remodeling. Ruth is a great supporter of this community — and an ardent angler.
Scott has been a member of the Texas SandFest Board since 2010. Port Aransas Resident since: March 2007. A native Texan, Scott was born in El Paso and raised in Plano. He is a graduate of Texas Tech University. Career background: Lawn and Garden Buyer / Coordinator for Lowes Home Centers, 13 yrs. Scott owns Inside Out Beach Décor, Gifts and More, Port A Beach Buggies golf cart rentals and Fun in the Sun Beach Rentals, located at 307 W Ave G in Port Aransas.
Lisa works with the SandFest board, sculptors and volunteers to produce a successful annual event. She is on the Port Aransas ISD Board of Trustees — and has been involved with the Port Aransas Community Theatre, Relay For Life, Olsen Elementary PTO, the PAISD Site Based Decision Making Committee, the PAISD District Wide Education Improvement Committee and the Marlins Booster Club. Lisa has lived in Port A for more than 20 years, and has a son and twin girls. She has owned a housekeeping business for 18 years — and provides bartending, catering, and event planning services for private and corporate parties.
Shana joined the Texas SandFest Board in 2016. Her family businesses — Silver Sands Realty, Silver Sands Vacation Rentals, and Silver Sands Golf Carts — have been regular sponsors of SandFest and several other local events for many years. Shana first moved to Port Aransas with her parents in 2002. She attended Texas A&M, Corpus Christi. In 2010, Shana married Matt Craine, a member of a longstanding island family that has been in Port A since the 1950s. In 2011, Shana and Matt moved to Fort Worth. While there, Shana was an active volunteer with The Women’s Center, a nonprofit crisis center for women and children. Shana and Matt are the proud parents of a son, Baker, and a daughter, Georgia. The family moved back to the island in 2016, and are here to stay. Her sleeves are rolled up and she’s ready to contribute to her island home community.
Marketing Specialist & VIP/Special Events Coordinator
Celeste has been in the wedding and event business for more than 13 years. Her experience includes working in Los Angeles for the legendary celebrity hotel, Chateau Marmont, where she specialized in movie premieres and award season events, such as the Oscars after parties. As Director of Special Events at Petit Ermitage in West Hollywood, she executed rooftop weddings and masquerade balls. As Director of Special Events for Cinnamon Shore, she brings her unique expertise and love of event production with her to Port Aransas and South Texas.
Michele joined the SandFest board in 2016. Born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, she relocated to Texas in 1993. In 2015, Michele made Port Aransas her permanent residence —where she resides with her husband, Mark, and her son, Tyler. She is an active member of several Port Aransas organizations. Michele’s career background is in restaurant management and hospitality with Outback Steakhouse. She changed careers when she became the Branch Manager of Valuebank Texas in Port Aransas. Michele is the proud mother of one daughter and two sons.
Mark has been involved with SandFest since 1999. Mark graduated Stephen F. Austin with a bachelor of business administration — and moved to South Texas as a District Executive with the Boy Scouts. He graduated Texas A&M Corpus Christi with a post baccalaureate in MIS/Accounting. Through his sandsculpting business, Sandrum.com, Mark offers lessons, team building, birthday parties, and marriage proposal and party castles. When not in the sand, you will find him working as a substitute teacher.
Ryan is happy to be a part of the SandFest family as a marketing & acquisitions specialist. Her family has been second home owners in beautiful Port Aransas for 20+ years. Her childhood consisted of running up and down Highway 37 from San Antonio, where she graduated from Churchill High School. She then graduated from the University of San Diego, where she played Division 1 Volleyball and earned a BA in Communication Studies. Ryan is a realtor with Port Aransas Realty.
Darlene came from Ohio to Texas in 2005. She is the manager of the Port Aransas Community Theatre, and is involved in several other volunteer organizations — including Keep Port Aransas Beautiful, the Port Aransas Garden Club and the Port Aransas Parrot Heads. Darlene lives here with her husband, Mike, who is equally involved in the community.
Mike has been a Texas Sandfest Sponsor since 2012. He was born and raised in San Antonio, taking numerous summer trips to Port Aransas for deep sea fishing. After graduating from The University of Texas at San Antonio, Mike moved to Corpus Christi in 2004 for a position in sales with Corpus Christi Golf Cars. He is now the General Manager, overseeing all facets of the business. Mike prides himself on offering exceptional customer service with an outstanding team of employees. Mike and his wife, Lauren, have one active son!
Webmaster & Director of Social Media
Annette and her husband, Alex, fell in love with Port A the first time they visited the island. They moved here from Austin when they retired in 2014. Annette has been designing and building websites since 1998. She specializes in building websites that are accessible for people with disabilities. For several years, Annette was a web designer for a Fortune 500 computer company, also managing their email marketing campaigns. She has worn many hats throughout her career — including Executive Director of a nonprofit arts agency; state Public Relations Director of an international bird conservation organization; professional photographer; photographer for a Dallas area newspaper; writer and managing editor of a statewide environmental magazine; grants manager with the Texas Comission on the Arts — and marketing, government and public relations with several Texas nonprofits. A native Texan, Annette has a BA in Latin American Studies from Tulane University in New Orleans and an MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Arizona. When she’s not building websites, she is designing jewelry under the name Coquina Dance.
