Fur Babies Love SandFest Too!
Everyone is welcome at SandFest, even our four-legged friends! Here are some tips to make their visit more enjoyable.
Things to Keep in Mind

-
Pets must be on a leash at all times - it's the law.
-
Unlike their owners, dogs wear fur coats wherever they go so they can get hot a lot faster than people
-
Test the sand with your bare feet before walking your dog. If the ground is too hot for you, its too hot for them!
-
When taking your dog to the beach, it's important to protect their paws from the hot sand. You can protect their paws by either putting on dog booties or applying a specially designed dog paw balm to protect their sensitive paws pads.
-
Take plenty of water. Your dog cannot sweat so their only way of cooling off is by drinking lots of water
-
Pay attention to your dog's demeaner to avoid overheating. If they are, find shade or an air-conditioned area immediately!
-
Dogs with flat faces (Pugs, Bulldogs, Frenchies, etc.) are even more prone to heat issues.
-
Never leave your dog in a parked car.
-
High humidity amplifies the negative impact of high temperatures on your pet - in combination, these factors magnify the danger zone.
-
Pick up after your pet! Be sure to bring poop bags so we can all enjoy the beach.
-
Remember, your dog may be the sweetest pup on the planet around you and your friends/ family, but you can't be certain how your dog will react to other dogs or how other dogs will react to yours. Pay attention to other dogs in your environment.
